The Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm

The original negatives of The Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm (1962) were heavily damaged with moisture, mould, and general rot by water damage. It has two more film strips than a normal film. The film is about 140 minutes long, so it is equivalent to a 420 minutes film. Some film restorers described the film as ‘un-restorable’.

The film restoration project was finally started by Dave Strohmaier and Tom H. March who had experience in restoring Cinerama productions. Fortunately, they found that the negative was in a better condition than stated in a 1994 inspection report. And advancements in digital film restoration had allowed the damage to be restored. They also obtained some IB Technicolor frame clip samples as a reference. The SmileBox version digitally recreates the original wraparound experience. The Technicolor look and experience will bring the audience back to 1962.
