Il Cinema Ritrovato 2021

Here comes another edition of the Il Cinema Ritrovato! The festival opening will be held next Tuesday but there will be some screenings at the Cinema Lumière and Piazza Maggiore starting from this week.

Apart from the regular programmes, the Cineteca di Bologna is co-organising a thematic programme of Tomijiro Komiya collection with the National Film Archive of Japan. Tomijiro Komiya collected mainly European films, included some lost ones that once had in this collection. There will be also programmes of the documentaries of Iwanami Productions, George Stevens, Herman Mankiewicz and Romy Schneider, etc. As a complement to last year’s tribute to Yuzo Kawashima, two recent restorations of Elegant Beast and Temple of the Wild Geese (both 1962) will be screened this year.

Other new restorations selected include Luis Buñuel’s Un chien andalou (1929), William Wyler’s The Best Years of Our Lives (1946), Roberto Rossellini’s The Flowers of St. Francis (1950), John Ford’s The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (1962), André Delvaux’s The Man Who Had His Hair Cut Short (1965), Orson Welles’s F for Fake, Govindan Aravindan’s Kummatty… wonderful programmes too many to mention. Some of the films will be available on Il Cinema Ritrovato streaming website.
